ForestEthics, ForestEthics Advocacy, and ForestEthics Solutions operate as a highly effective international coalition of independent organizations. While we are separate entities we coordinate closely–working together to achieve specific shared goals and objectives in the US and Canada.
Ben joined ForestEthics Advocacy in January of 2013. He spent the last five years as a Healthy Communities Campaigner in Vancouver focusing on protecting BC and the Salish Seas from tar sands pipelines and tankers. He also has campaigned for zero waste initiatives, sensible transportation and land use planning and myriad of other projects related to facing the challenge of addressing global warming.
Ben has explored various avenues to make change for the better ranging from film-making to political organizing. Now as the Tar Sands Campaign Director for ForestEthics Advocacy Ben is responsible for organizing strategic campaigns to stop pipeline and tanker proposals and to work towards making better economic alternatives a reality in order to help end our addiction to fossil fuels. In all his work Ben is driven by his passion for environmental justice, and ecological literacy.
Ben was described as a "splendid orator" by the Georgia Straight newspaper and has enjoyed a number of opportunities to publicly debate and discuss the issues with industry representatives, politicians, academics and others.
Ben is madly in love with the wild places in BC and he is passionate about learning from and working with the Indigenous people of the region. In his spare time Ben is a juggler, twitter addict (@BenWest) and wannabe comedian.
