Canada's Tar Sands:

The world’s dirtiest oil and the companies that are driving its reckless expansion.

The Tar Sands slogans project was created to encourage Walmart and Safeway to stop using Canada's dirty Tar Sands fuel to ship their products. Concerned citizens like you recreated their slogans to show that using dirty energy is risky for a company's brand and then voted on their favorites.

The winning slogans

We are pleased to announce our winners:

We have big plans for delivering the winning slogans to Walmart and Safeway – they need to know how risky Tar Sands fuel use can be for their brands – but we can't reveal them just yet.

Holding corporate consumers accountable for driving environmental destruction

In Spring 2008, more than 1600 migrating ducks landed on a toxic Tar Sands tailing pond and died-- which are so huge they can be seen from space.
At a moment when the world needs to transition to a clean energy economy, the Tar Sands pose a severe threat to our forests, air, water, health and climate – and the largest corporate consumers must be held accountable for driving this destruction.

Among these large consumers are Walmart and Safeway. It's time for Walmart and Safeway to stop using Canada's dirty Tar Sands fuel to ship their products. They can support a clean energy future and take a stand against the disastrous effects of the Tar Sands by agreeing to stop using transportation fuel made from the world’s dirtiest oil.
