In the US, ForestEthics is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit, tax-exempt organization incorporated under the laws of the State of California in 1999.

Across the border, ForestEthics is a project of Tides Canada Initiatives (formerly the Sage Center), who have full governing, legal, and fiduciary responsibility for the project. ForestEthics in the US is a completely separate organization that is a sometimes a funder of ForestEthics in Canada.
