Indigenous Peoples and First Nations principles and protocols

We work with these communities in the places we protect because the fate of the people, their culture and the land are inextricably linked.

In our work with Indigenous Peoples and First Nations, we adhere to the following principles:

1. We respect First Nations' rights and title to their land;
2. We respect First Nations as governments.

Furthermore, we support First Nations communities in their efforts to protect their lands and to secure ecosystem-based management approaches in their territories. We also support conservation-based economic development opportunities in these communities.
