Get the Shell Out Banner in Victoria, British Columbia

In the Pacific Northwest, the Labour Day long weekend is often the last chance to soak up summer sun before the autumn rains begin and so everyone heads outdoors. ForestEthics staff and volunteers grabbed the banner, slapped on some sunscreen and joined the crowds heading to Vancouver Island, British Columbia for the weekend. We couldn’t wait until we arrived in Victoria to start talking to people about our campaign to Get the Shell Out of the Sacred Headwaters, so we rolled out the banner on the ferry and got the whole deck buzzing with talk about the Sacred Headwaters When we arrived in Victoria, we headed to the Vancouver Island Blues Bash, a free outdoor concert with hundreds of people in attendance. Our volunteers could barely answer questions and hand out “Get the Shell Out of the Sacred Headwaters” postcards fast enough. During the weekend, we toured the banner all around the busy inner harbor, making a point of visiting the B.C. Legislature, to bring your 57,000 voices of opposition right to the doorstep of the politicians who have the power to stop Shell’s project. The next and final stop of the banner tour is the Shell headquarters in Calgary, Alberta, where we'll meet with Shell Canada's president, Lorraine Mitchelmore to deliver the banner. Whatever happens in that meeting, the banner tour has made one thing clear: British Columbians will not stand idly by while Shell threatens the Sacred Headwaters. Until the Sacred Headwaters is protected, our movement will only grow. ⁞
