Enbridge CEO Retires, Ensuring Pipeline Decision Will Not Occur on His Watch

ForestEthics Senior Energy Campaigner Nikki Skuce made the following statement today regarding the resignation of Enbridge CEO Pat Daniel:
"Today it was announced that by the end of the year Enbridge CEO Pat Daniel would be ending his more than three decade tenure at the company, and that his role as president has been immediately transferred to Al Monaco.
While it's unclear why Enbridge is replacing its top executive in the middle of a critical review process for its proposed Northern Gateway pipeline and tanker project, it is clear that either the company or Mr. Daniel decided that the pipeline's fate would not be decided on Mr. Daniel's watch.
Three years ago, Mr. Daniel told BC First Nations representatives at the Enbridge AGM that he did not want to go through with a project that was 'opposed and of concern to others'. The Northern Gateway project faces firm and growing opposition by communities throughout British Columbia. Despite a desperate array of Enbridge claims to the contrary, the project offers far fewer benefits than Mr. Daniel or Enbridge have promised, while posing enormous risks to British Columbia's communities, coast, and balanced economies.”
